Western Canada Aviation Museum - What's New
Orville & Wilbur:The Wright Brothers' Legacy...
Check out the link above to see what all the international buzz is about. If you are in Winnipeg at any time in the next 10 weeks or so, then the exhibit is a must see! You will be remiss, if you miss it! An if you miss it twice, you will be remiss if you re-missed it!!!! I will be there all day Friday, Feb. 7th for the opening ceremonies.....all the High Mucky-mucks will be there, including some politicians (low mucky-mucks). I am looking forward to it, the whole exhibit is supposedly worth a cool Million BBBBuck, and that is Canadian! I will be doing an extra shift per week as a security person...I wonder if I will get to carry a gun?!?! A pointed stick?!?!
Bad, Bad January is behind us now!
Well, the ghastly weather is (hopefully) behind us now. Seems like January came in like a penguin and left like a penguin. Its strange when you consider -20 deg C to be abolutely balmy! There is a theory that the winters have been mild the last few years and this years cold snap is a reality check... On the whole, though I think that winters are getting milder...spring seems to be coming earlier and the snow is holding off until later in the fall. I don't know about the Greenhouse but I am trying to contribute to the GAS!
Well, better go and get ready, we are going to see the movie, "Cold Mountain". It's a movie that one should see on the big screen, I think.
"Kinder nicht mehr an der Schultür abgeben" Ohhohahahahaha! That Schulbufeuggen guy kills me!

Well, here it is Friday. Still in a deep freeze...will someone close the lid! Seriously, it will break on the weekend and we will be basking in the sunshine....beach weather hoho. Feb 2nd is groundhog day and we'll just see if there will be 6 more weeks of winter.
I see where Bush's feet are being held to the fire on the issue of justification for the Iraq war. Several editorials today are demanding that the President come clean and tell what he knows (that really shouldn't take long). I get the feeling theat he is waiting for the right moment to say that he was mislead by the intelligence people. One thing for sure, he doesn't want this to drag on too far into an election year!
Well, today is a Reh-fit day, so I 'd better go and get ready.
.
But first , here is your Qqquote of the day!: "Ich möchte etwas knockvurst und etwas Käse, bitte" Karl Wenserginosenchaft. mwahahahaha

Novarg.A virus......
Two more of this virus today! That makes 7! What the hell, am I a virus magnet...don't answer that! It is getting as bad as Jack's Cellulitus!....won't go away. Although, I understand from Jack's Blog that his leg is getting better...it's not as painful as a life spent with BLS (bowl-legged syndrome), but I imagine that it is still painful...glad he is feeling better.
Afghanistan...Pre-emptive Iraq war making the world safe for democracy...
Here we are peace-keeping in Afghanistan and Canadian soldiers are dying, and Dubya still thinks that we are "agin him" (as in you are either with us or agin us). Canada is in Afghanistan...you know, the place where Osama (the world trade centre guy?) is. Bad enough that American 'Cowboy' pilots killed 4 Canadians in a 'friendly fire incident but now the Canadian soldiers are having to deal with suicide bombers. I know, I know, American soldiers are dying in Iraq...about 500 so far...and that is a real tragedy, but, they haaaave saved the world from WMD's...since they found no nuclear capabilit in Iraq, I guess there will be no mushroom cloud over New York, as Condi Rice had stated. With no found WMD's in Iraq, the US administration is now saying that Saddam was invaded because should have declared to the UN that he HAD NO WMD's, although he said many times that there were none. The administration (er...Richard Pearl and David Frum) are saying that the US had to invade Iraq because the UN was not doing anything....I guess that they would do anything to help the UN save face, which is real strange because , didn't Dubya call the UN an ineffective organization verging on the totally uselessss????? And what is with that David Frum??? neo-conservative nincompoop!...his Mom Barbara would turn over in her grave if she knew what the idiot was up to!
Sorry I got carried away.......soapbox down.... how about the weather?
We set a record last night for cold, -40 deg. c ! People don't appreciate just how cold that is. Your car barely turns over and growls...its like kicking a hibernating bear. Your tires are square and for the first block or so you flop along like a fisher with his gum boots half off running down the street....fwap fwap fwap. Your engine never heats up because the fan is always coming on and when that happens the engines cools right down and has to start heating all over again when the fan stops. Your battery losses half its cranking power at -18 and below, so your car had better start quickly or you are shit out of luck. In Stonewall, just north of the city, a major gas-line froze and 80% of the houses in the town of 5,000 were without heat...imagine a gas line freezing! They say that the gas will be back on by dinner time but what do they do until then? We really need a break in the weather!
Well, better go and have a nap. Can't go without my afternoon nap...one gets used to these things, you see.
Blog it up people!

In case you are on Mars!.....
There is 2 (two) 'worm' viruses going around within the last couple of days. I have gotten them 6 times now and my Norton Anti-virus software has caught them EVERY time. The first one was the "Novarg.A" virus or as Macafee calls it the "MyDoom" virus....Got this one 5 times, the first one was within 6 hours of its release!! The second one is a variant called "MyDoom.B" virus. Suffice to say that if you do not open any strange attachments and update your anti-virus definitions, you will be safe. Go to the Symantic web page for more info.
happy and safe computing!

Don't stand in the sun if you've got butter on your head. "Wie boter op zijn hoofd heeft moet niet in de zon gaan staan."
-your Dutch lesson for today.
------------------------------------------
Just when you thought it was safe to go out....
It got colder today...unbebeebable?!?! It stayed around -35 deg c all day and it is supposed to go to -40 deg c. tonight. It is amazing, around Meadow Lake Saskatchewan it got down to -52 deg c. ...luckily we were balmier. It's a wonder Polar Bears aren't moving down south for the easy pickins!
Drugs are cheaper in Canada...
Prescription drugs are cheaper in Canada than in the USA, but, strangely enough, street drugs are more expensive... Its a strange world, but we live in it.
Catherine teaches grade-oners for 2 days...
Catherine is subbing at General Vanier for Thursday and Friday. She has been there before and the last time she was at that school for another grade, two of the grade-oners ran up and gave her a hug. I do that too! Anyhow, I hope the car starts...swine car.
How is everybody doing? Keep on not...er, Blogging, everybody.
Later peoples. More dutch lessons tomorrow!

How to weather the weather...
It's darn cool here in the Peg...minus 26 deg c, now and going down to minus 30 deg c. But that is better than Saskatoon where it is going down to -40 deg c. That's balls in one hand and a brass monkey in the other! It is supposed to get warmer by the weekend...we'll see.
Aviation Museum's mantle of responsibility...
"The mantle of responsibility weighs heavy on a man who is responsible...mantle-wise." Grover Cleveland..or was that just Grover? anyways, I assumed the mantle of responsibility today, when I was asked to look after the visitor services (including the Gift Shop). It was real tough to carry that burden, but carry it I did...we had almost a dozen people going through all day and I sold 2 chocolate bars and
a used (nearly new) book for a dollar. It's a good thing that I'm only voluteering because otherwise I'd feel bad and probably get laid off to boot! Well January is a slow month around these parts. I can't wait until the spring when it gets busier. Teahers start burning out then and are looking for places to bring their students. I shall, if ever asked again, wear the mantle of responsibility with pleasure...avec plasir, as they say in France. Seeing as though I brought in $2.98 in gift shop sales (I confess that .99 cents was a chocolate bar that I bought) I should think that they would be remiss if they did not recognize my enormous sales talents!
New Thermostat for Tore-ass...
Darn that Ford! Now the Thermostat blew because the anti-freeze got low, because of the hole in the side of the anti-freeze filler container, causing the anti-freeze to get low and then blowing out the damn thermostat. It's hard to drive 'cause the cold air is blowing up my pant legs.....and speaking of freezing the balls off a brass monkey. Luckily though, it is so cold that the engine will not over-heat but rather cools right off when the engine fan kicks in....just as it is starting to get warm.
Arizony or bust...I'll take Arizony for a Thousand , Alex!...
What state starts with an 'A' and ends in a 'Y'???? Right...ARIZONY! Gary and Carol are in Arizona at some posh trailer park, where they are soaking up the sun and Gary will golf, when his back is not so sore. But it sounds like they are having so much fun that they are staying for another couple of weeks...may as well, cause their house is rented, eh.
Well better go...
Well, better go.
Keep on blogging!...

Just for the day tomorrow, I will be totally in charge of the front desk and the gift shop. Its just for the day but the power...the power. Don't worry though, I shall not forget all the little people who helped me reach just such a pinnacle. I shall not let you down!...four score and twenty years ago, our fore-fathers....yadda, yadda, yadda. I will let you little people know how it went tomorrow. I am sure you will be anxious to hear.
Well, TARA for now PIP PIP TALLY-HO and all that rot. Keep blogging!

Alas, no light through yonder window breaks...its night stupid!
It's 2 in the morning ...couldn't sleep....yawn ;-o ... I don't know why, 'ceptin that I got heartburn. Why do they call it heatburn when it is in your stomach? I have a touch of insomnia lately, I must have caught it from Joel.
Christly Friggin' snow....
Getting more today and tomorrow. Stop already. Our snowfall is twice the normal for this time of year.......BAH, What greenhouse? I do not feel everso bad now that I realize that the cold weather's icy fingers have reached the banana belt of southern Oklahoma. Freeze you damn Okies freeze Bwahahahaha (maniacal laugh). The big MCA bonspiel is on right now and we are supposed to get our annual "Bonspiel Thaw".
Has anybody seen it? Did I miss it?
Chinese party to celebrate Spring Festival...
We went to Morgan & Terri's Chinese New Years bash last night. the company was fun and the food was great. Terri is such a good cook...there was sweet&sour ribs, little chicken drummies in some kinda sauce, eggrolls....and plenty o' booze....not that I drank much, what with my delicate condition and all. (you know the wonky arthritis ravaged, post traumatic birth bowl legged syndrome, knees)......Ahhhh, it is my burden.
Golden Globes...
Thought for sure that Johnny Depp would get the award for best actor in a comedy movie but, oh no, it was Bill Murray in "Lost in Translation"....got to see that one! I have to see "Finding Nemo" and "Monster" too, I understand that Charlize Theron is great in it. Oh yeah, "Mystic River" got to see that one too. Not interested in "Cold Mountain"....maybe when it comes out on DVD. "Lord of the Ring's :The Return of the king" won best picture, no surprise there, eh?
Well better go and get some sleep...got my adobe photo class tomorrow.
Live long and prosper........and keep on blogging!

Baghdad Burning
-I'll meet you 'round the bend my friend, where hearts can heal and souls can mend
...Girl Blog from Iraq... let's talk war, politics and occupation.
.........................
The above is a very interesting site from a woman's perspective in war-torn Baghdad.
Quartzite...a place in the Sun!
Sounds like Gary and Carol had a wonderful time in Quartzite. I can picture it...its night, a clear sky with millions of sparkling stars, and nothing stirring and the silence is only broken by the sound of hundreds of humming generators! Ah, 'tis wonderful, nature is. (Shakespeare).
Bloody hell
Here it got down to -35 deg c last night......
At that temperature trees are heard exploding...the sap in the trees just gets so cold that it causes the trees to virtually explode....er OK, it is possible, isn't it? Only the hardiest of people can take it...you have to be tough! The wolves pick off the stragglers after rush hour! NAR NAR WOOF WOOF
Well, tonight we are going to a Chinese Newyear's celebration...we'll probably have to celebrate again shortly afterwards...like chinese food you get hungry an hour later!
Keep blogging...pardon me while I wax poetic, but the blogs are a comfort to me...as yet but a hot poker thrust up the butt of life..ye comfort me much....(Shakespeare: somwhere near the 12th night!)

Hopi Bluecorn Pancake Mix & Prickly Pear Syrup ...thats what youse kin git in Arizony! Can I get a Yahoo? The weather looks good down in Quartzite for Gary & Carol. At least it was 19deg C, when I last checked. Hey that is strangely coincidental...it's 19 deg C here too! OOPS, I guess ours is minus 19. that's a cool breeze off Lake Mead! I have been to Kingman, thats about 100 miles north of Quartzite...it reminded me of one of those old frontier towns in the western movies. Dusty, hot, dry and tumbleweeds rolling by. Sergio Leone type of a place...The good, the not-so-good and the not-so-handsome Clint Eastwood, Eli Wallach, who was the other guy? Lee Van Cleef????
Well, did anyone see the new CTV comedy, "Corner Gas" with Brent Butt? Its a hoot! After so many crappy comedies like "Blackfly", "The King of Kensington", etc., CTV has finally done it right. The first scene opens with a guy (from away!) pulling up to the pumps at Dog River, Saskatchewan and he says,"Sure is flat around here." Brent Butt thanks him, sarcastically, for that piece of information because before this he hadn't realized that it was flat there. He turns to his assistant and says "Did you know it was flat here?" "Let's see, there was mountains just over....hey where'd they go?".....goes on from there. Good show that's worth a look.
We got more damn snow today. Hell, it can wait until spring. No more shovelling for me...at least not today! We have to go out though.... Today is the first day For Catherine's next bout of Hip-Hop classes.
Tomorrow, we are going over to Morgan and Terri's for Chinese New Year party and we are looking forward to it.
Ya jus can't hold us back! WooHoo!
Keep on Blogging!!!!!

Tomorrow, we are going over to Morgan and Terri's for Chinese New Year party and we are looking forward to it.
Ya jus can't hold us back! WooHoo!
Keep on Blogging!!!!!

this is cute. Hava a nice day!
WHAT THE DOCTOR WROTE...
The following quotes were taken from actual medical records as dictated by physicians...
By the time he was admitted, his rapid heart had stopped, and he was feeling better.
Patient has chest pain if she lies on her left side for over a year.
On the second day the knee was better and on the third day it had completely disappeared.
She has had no rigors or shaking chills, but her husband states she was very hot in bed last night.
The patient has been depressed ever since she began seeing me in 1983.
Patient was released to outpatient department without dressing.
I have suggested that he loosen his pants before standing, and then, when he stands with the help of his wife, they should fall to the floor.
The patient is tearful and crying constantly. She also appears to be depressed.
Discharge status: Alive but without permission.
The patient will need disposition, and therefore we will get Dr. Blank to dispose of him.
Healthy appearing decrepit 69 year-old male, mentally alert but forgetful.
The patient refused an autopsy.
The patient has no past history of suicides.
The patient expired on the floor uneventfully.
Patient has left his white blood cells at another hospital.
The patient's past medical history has been remarkably insignificant with only a 40 pound weight gain in the past three days.
She slipped on the ice and apparently her legs went in separate directions in early December.
The patient experienced sudden onset of severe shortness of breath with a picture of acute pulmonary edema at home while having sex which gradually deteriorated in the emergency room.
The patient had waffles for breakfast and anorexia for lunch.
Between you and me, we ought to be able to get this lady pregnant.
The patient was in his usual state of good health until his airplane ran out of gas and crashed.
Since she can't get pregnant with her husband, I thought you would like to work her up.
She is numb from her toes down.
While in the ER, she was examined, X-rated and sent home.
The skin was moist and dry.
Occasional, constant, infrequent headaches.
Coming from Detroit, this man has no children.
Patient was alert and unresponsive.
When she fainted, her eyes rolled around the room

Great big EYE in the sky forgive me...it has been 3 days since my last blog. I'll complete 3 hail Mary passes and I shall be forgiven..then I can do what I want.
Hello from Snowy Winnipeg. It keeps coming down and we keep shovelling it..snow that is. Them temperature is around -20c deg... thats 50 units of Coldt te (cold tea scale)...no sugar, just cream please.
I see by Gary's blog that he shall be incommunicado for the next little while since he is going where no man has gone before and there is no internet access! Ah the wilderness... don't forget to take a dump before you go..your system that is, because you can't do it in the wilderness.
I also see that Joel has updated his blog. His Grandfather died and his family has a hard time communicating. His Dad is at the funeral in the Phillippines and his Mom is back in vancouver having panic attacks. Hope everything gets better soon.
I also see that Jack is immersed in the politics at SOSU. I am so glad that that is behind me...its always something political that makes you worry about your job....anything can happen out of the blue just because one of your bosses wants to score a few points with upper management and these things usually are at the cost of others.
Well, Monday I went to my first "Adobe Photoshop" class. We are using the Adobe P/S version7 which retails for about $1200.00. I think that most people use Adobe Elements....retails for around $150.00. I will use the latter for the stuff I want to do. I am also entered into a course on converting your old records to CD's....should be good.
Anyways, wow that Photoshop is really something...a lot of goodies to have fun with.
I went to my family doctor (Hildahl) yesterday. My knee and hip still hurts and for a long while (since mid Nov.) it was keeping me from sleeping well. I figured that I could work it out at the Reh-fit and it is getting better but it is taking a looooong time. Anyways, my Doctor will line me up with some Physio in a couple of weeks and we'll see what I feel like then. If it has progressed, I may not need to go to physio. Damn, it seems that the older you get the longer it takes to heal. I figure that I might have fallen on the ice but can't remember the incident, probably because it did not hurt at the time......maybe a pulled muscle? Of course my 'lower bowl-legged syndrome' doesn't help...damn Flying Fickle Finger of Fate!
Well, better go as today is a Air museum day.

Wow...sounds like Gary is shootin' up the wild west! see his blog...it does sound like great fun, shootin' up the likes o cars n stuff. Machine Gun Gary and Baby-face Rob, the rootinest tootinest guns in Arizony! Too much sun...your necks are gettin red! I think Gary is most likely right...more fire-power than the Canadian Army! One could probably raise money for charity that way..."Shoot a Mac for the Homeless" of "Blast the Shit out of Hunger!".....I like it.
Well, anyways, back to reality. Yesterday, we went to see the play "My Fair Lady" at the Manitoba Theatre Centre. It was great. The two leads were very good and they were locals too! The rest of the cast was also good, especially Alfred Doolittle and Colonel Pickering. Of course the songs were good...can't go wrong with Lerner and Loewe. But the costumes and the sets especially were great. You can see where the production costs were in the range of $700.000.00! Afterwards we went to Earl's for dinner and it was very...competent. I much rather prefer Brannigan's though. What is the difference between Teachers and a canoe? A conoe tips!
We then rushed back home and let the dog out...who let the dog out who, who,who-who. And then before the dog could say woof we were off to Pat& Paul's place.
Today is just a lazy day...maybe I'll mosie on down to the backyard and shoot up my shed......yeah

hello there...shovel,shovel,shovel...we got more snow. Enough already. Well, they say the rivers and lakes are low, this will fill them up!
The temperature is -17 deg.c ...enough to ice up your 'klingons' !
This afternoon we are going to see "My Fair Lady" at MTC. It is the 'large' production type loss leader for the MTC this year. They feel that they have to put on an extravaganza every year to keep the annual subscribers coming back....and they are probably right. Last year they had William Hurt in "Richard III". Other years they have had "Cabaret", "Evita"....and so on. I think that afterewards we are going to Earls on Main for din-din. Then its off to Pat& Paul's for a bit of Trivialis Pursuitis....that's latin for you machine-gun toting red-necks out there! Shooting up poor defensless computers indeed! Seems to be an extreme version of 'booting up' your computer.
This is a hoot from the David Letterman show:
Top Ten Reasons George W. Bush Wants To Put A Man On Mars
10. Dick Cheney needs a new undisclosed location
9. It's part of his "No Planet Left Behind" initiative
8. Great deal on the off-season airfare right now at Expedia.com
7. Maybe we'll find some weapons of mass destruction there
6. We've run out of places on Earth to drill for oil
5. Hoping to get Mork's autograph
4. We cannot back down until the people of Mars hold free elections
3. Dude, free Mars bars
2. Why not? It's not like we have an enormous debt or failing economy
1. Pete Rose bet him we wouldn't do it
Keep on Blogging!

pack-a-chew...packa-chew...packach-ew...pa-ckachew.........gedsundheit! how in the H-E-double hockey sticks do you pronounce it anyway? Pacacho...this is the luxury-resort- RV campground (no tents allowed!) where Gary is at this week. I found it on the web. Looks very nice! Gary, have you and Carol climbed that rock, yet? I see that it gets quite cool at night there.
Here it is cool too...no cold...welllll It's all relative (yeah, my brothers are in warmer places!), around -6 deg c. and we expect some snow later on today, around 3 cms or so they say. Let's see, for you US'ers it's about an inch and since there are 2.5 cms to an inch and well that would be a little over an inch....as they would say in Arizona....a smidge over and inch.
I was supposed to go to the CRM computer club this morning but I didn't sleep well and well, I'm just lazy. Life just gets so hectic and you got to step back once in a while! Besides I hate driving in that 'supernatural being'-damn traffic. Life is too short for traffic! Suzie's got the right idea; just a minute I'll wake her up and she can tell you for herself.
Catherine got a subbing job for this afternoon at the Island (Island lake school). This her first and I guess only job this week. Looks like the flu season, or at least this round of flu, is passed. Good thing I got the flu shot...so far its given me about 14% protection against the Fujian flu. BUT, they expect another round of flu to hit in the near fluture.
There is a partime job I want to apply for. Its scraping the sneeze guard at the salad bar in Applebees. But am I Qualified? Well I scrape car windows if there is a frost?! Let's see sneeze on...sneeze off... Just kidding, I probably couldn't handle all that responsibility after being retired for nearly 2 years!
Well, better go..........KEEP BLOGGING!

Well, it was not a great shock because he has been sick for a while, but Joel's grandfather passed away. Our hearts are with you Joel. xoxoxoxo
Anyways, today we were at Chapters book store and saw a large book of jumble puzzles and we bought it for Mom...just because she has been good to us. She was pleased to get it when we dropped it off with her other groceries this afternoon. (is that sentence right?.. have I left something dangling?)
Anywho, we found a new place for the HAM group to meet... the Viscount Gort Hotel (rte 90 & Portage Ave.). They are willing to furnish a room and only charge us for the catered meal @ $20.58 ea tax & tip included, on a Saturday night yet.. I am quite please, as the room is quite nice. The hotel has spent $7 million on renovations this last year. Unless there ae any objections, I will call them tomorrow and reserve the room for our next meeting.
The Ford Toreass is running well, finally got some heat. It is nice to have heat out in the cold! If not, you could freeze you toreass off!
I got a brochure about a train trip and a cruize to Alaska in May. It sounds great. You fly to Calgary and then bus to Banff. next day you trrain to Kamloops and then the next day you train it to Vancouver. We would have to find a place to eat in Vancouver ...hmmmmm i wonder where we would go??? The next morning, Saturday, we would tour bus around Van and then off to the ship. Up to Alaska and Ketch as Ketchican, some glaciers, a lot of food and ater 7 days its back to Van to fly home. The only catch is, if Catherine gets the contract teaching job from Mar to June. Then...we would have to do it next year!! It would be a nice trip.
well, better go, the dog is calling me....by name?!?! ooooooohhhhhh

Well, its says Thursday but really it is Wednesday evening at 12:30. It is snowing again. this time we are getting 5 cms...we just had 10 cms! Enough already. The snow-mobilers and the snow-boarders are happy, though. With the new snow-mobile suits those guys can go all day and not get cold.....and some of them have handle bar warmers, too. It is getting really cold out in Eastern Canada...wind chills of 40 and 50 below in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Ottawa, Toronto the Good, and Montreal are all suffering in the deep freeze....Aw, now I feel bad.
The west coast, however is warm...around 10 in Vancouver and 11 in Calgary. But in Calgary it could be 11 degs but Red Deer might be -11 degs....a localized shnook er, chinook. Because it is warmer out west, we can expect the weather here to get warmer by the weekend.....I'll get out my clubs!
Check lyn's blog....she updated it today with an entry from Jan 5th?!....see link at right. Sounds like she and Alan have gone landscaping crazy...like the Victoria Chainsaw massacre.
Catherine and I have been busy trying to get a new venue for the MB Humanists dinner/meetings. And we spent the morning shovelling and snow-blowing! I had to get the car out because I had to get over to the Museum so that they wouldn't realize that I was indispensible...if I didn't show up!......well yoou know what I mean.
Tired now...better get some beauty rest ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZbetter go to bed and sleep!

Tucson...I have been there twice on business but I never visited the Titan Silo. I would have loved to have seen it! Maybe next time!
As I recall everything in and around Tucson starts to turn green in the winter. It must be nice there now...its bloody hot in the summer. Because of the heat most people have carpets on their car dashes, so they won't blister and crack. And, they park under canopies to be in the shade. Yet, the mountsins nearby are snow-covered, even in the summer! But its a dry heat...............
Anyhow, glad they are well and having a good time.

hello, it's Tuesday, Jan. 13. Last night it went down to a bone-chilling -31deg c. Frrrrigggin' cold on any scale. I had to go to the General Hospital for the Diabetes Research Group and I froze my ass off...now that is big cold! Luckily I was wearing my new fur hat...yes fur!.....you'd wear it too if you had to go out in -30 Deg. weather! Don't worry though the fur was not taken form the animal until it was dead!
Just took my Ford Toreass into the garage because I was not getting any heat. They found a crack in the filler tank...bloody Ford! $47.00 for a new one and Ford had plenty in stock (I wonder why?).
The guy at Minute Muffler borrowed me his car, a PT cruiser, neat little thing, fun to drive. If I had Gary's money I would buy one! Bwahahahaha
Better go, the car is ready and we have to go shopping for groceries.
Later, crocdiles or soon, alligators.
By the way...Louisianna beat Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl...How about that Jackson? Neener neener neener...good game notheless!

Just heard from Gary via e-mail. He is alive and well, and busy...shopping and/or relaxing. Anywho, he says he will be updating his blog soon, now that he has access to a computer again.
What's the weather like? Glad you asked...it was about -10deg c (20 fuddles on the fuddleduck scale for all you Liberals out there!) today and it is going down to -23 tonight Brrrrrr....must plug in the electric blanket. We had about 1 cm snow...a tad more than a skiff and we expect more tomorrow...another 5 cms or so. Not enough to start the 8 throbbing horses, 2 stage, 6 forward & 3 reverse geared, faux metal flake painted, snowblower with an adjustible chute...OOOgh..OOOgh.OOOgh.
Catherine went down to the Riel School Div. offices today to apply for a term position at Island Lakes School. There are 2 women there that are going on maternity leave starting about March 1st. That is at her old school. She wouldn't go anywhere else. She knows the kids and well, she wants to do it. It would be for 4 months and the money would come in handy too... on top of our pensions. We could be like double- dippers!
How do you like my new, jazzy blog? Complete with linky-poos! Like Picasso, it's my blue period!
Anyhow, better go, keep on blogging, everyone!

Margot Land
What we need is more Ousey girrls to blog...... Margot has just updated hers.
Its minus 10 deg c and we got a skiff of snow overnight. skiff=dusting, like for fingerprints...in the snow.
Catherine is cooking a roast beast for supper....mmmmmm good. I can have lots because I am on the Atkin's diet. Thats my kinda diet...all meat and no leafy veggies. Boohahahahah. We are having Mommykins over for din-din...yes complete with the duck-slippers that margot got her for Xmas!
Yesterday we had our monthly Humanist meeting and we had a speaker from a non-prophet..er, non-profit funeral planning and memorial society. For a lifetime fee of $12.00 they will help you plan ahead for your funeral service. You know, so you can have the kind of services that you prefer. I think I like the Wake service. You know, where after you die, they prop you up in a chair and toast to your good health...er maybe just to your past health or not. Or maybe I should take the advice that people have been trying to tell me for years...GET STUFFED!
Well better go and pick up the Nanster.

Where is Bam anyway??? Is it between Wham and Thank-you Ma'am?
It is a cloudy day in the Great White North. Temp is -5 deg c. Thats three BUMPHS on the BUMPH scale.
I like that word BUMPH. It means printed matter that can well be used as toilet paper... Like the Winnipeg Sun.
Not much new here 'ceptin that it is mild this weekend...gonna get colder during the week tho! Don't ya hate those people that are always looking on the dark side? They are like that guy in the Dogpatch cartoon...Joe @#$%$#&^*%, who always walked around with a cloud over his head. Enjoy today!.......Enjoy where you are right now because where you might be...you ain't! Could be in Flourida..but youse ain't!
I got called into the Aviation Museum yesterday. Those people cannot get along without me! I swear...they started out just appreciatin' my bein' there...then they gets demanding, insisting that I go once a week, then they depends on it, then they rely on it, then they miss me when I'm not there, then the CANNOT GET ALONG WITHOUT ME! AH is indispikable, ah er, indispensible! Seriously though, now they have let me loose in the gift shop. I also went down to Creative Retirement to apply for a course in Adobe Print Shop...but it was full. I do, however belong to the CR computer Club and we meet at least 2x a month, and there are 'special interest groups' that meet another 2x a month WRT digital cameras, print shop, etc. I did get into a course that shows ya how to copy LPs onto Cds...should be good.
There was this businessman who was veeeerrry busy, so busy in fact that when the opportunity came he had himself cloned! This clone would represent him at various places that, because he was so busy, the businessman preferred not to be. Only problem was, the clone had a flaw...he swore, a lot. It was F*&k this and F$#k that. He swore so much that everybody who met with him complained. Well, one day...the businessman was out for a rare walk with the clone , when they neared a cliff. The businessman had decides that it was just not worth aggrevation having a clone that swore so much, and PUSHED the clone over the cliff..............The police came and the businessman was charged with...................
Making an obscene clone fall ! bwahahahahahahha
Well, better go and start getting ready...we have our Humanist Association of Manitoba (HAM for short!)dinner meeting tonight.

Travels of Gary & Carolyn
Hello there....looks like Gary was in Juarez....thats Spanish for "Hey Meester want a date weeth my seester?" I understand that they have cheap medicine down there but I wonder if it is the real thing...Hmmmmm.
Its cool here (-10 c) but the sun is shinning brightly ...thats THEE SUN IS BIG IN THEE SKY AND BRIGHT TOO!...for all you people that went to school on the short bus.
Joel is having fun snowboarding in all that freshly fallen snow. Just like the snowmobilers here, I tell ya these snow-heads are fanatical....all they want is snow snow and more snow. Margot is looking forward to spring and the courses she will be taking. So she loves photography...lets look at the big picture! heehee. Thats my daughter!...went to school on the long bus!
I wonder how Jack is doing? He hasn't updated his blog since he said on the 23 Dec. that he would blog more now that he is off on holidays.?.?.?
I went to both the endocrinologist today and the urologist. BIG WORDS...LONG BUS! My Hb1ac (long term blood sugar) is at 6.8, not bad, and my cholesteral is at 6.1...a leetle high. You'll be pleased to know that my creatinine level has leveled off at 200 (+-), so my kidneys are working steadily at about 50% and have been for about a year. The urologist says that I must be eating too many leafy vegetables because my oxcilates are high......bwahahahaha me vegetables? ....must be another Dennis!...well he said that Vitamen c would contribute too, so I have to stop taking vit c. High oxcilates cause a different kind of kidney stone from calcium stones (what i had before), and gout...HAD IT...you dont want it!! They also had a special on Prostate and thyroid tests...both were negatory. Well if anything I am sure getting a lesson on glands and how they work!!!! LONG BUS!
Well better go, we are having hot BBQ chicken wings and some green leafy things that the hamster don't want.
Oh yeah Nana's fish Oscar?...DEAD...Nanas not too broken up...after a couple of years she was waiting for him to pass on. And Nana heroleself is doin fine. Healthy as a horse with a pace-maker! Playing cards allatime!
Well longidioso my New Mexican friends and youse others.

FORGIVE ME BLOGFATHER FOR I HAVE SINNED.....It's been 3 days since my last confession...er,...blog.
I understand it is snowy and cold on the west-coast, you poor things...you'll freeze your little toosies off! It must be terrible in Victoria...it snowed yesterday and they had to cancel all three flights out of the airport!
Margot got her wish...its snowing in Vancouver...again...not so happy now.
Here, it was cold for a day or two but it has mellowed out yesterday and today. It is about -18 deg C...or about ZERO deg F for all you luddites out there.
So the damn cow came from Canada. With such and integrated pool of cattle between the US and Canada that is like the Americans saying the hole is on your side of the boat! Get over it! What the problem needs is a solution not finger pointing! Now if we were to work together....hummmm?
Well, Gary is in Carlsbad spelunking. Hope he is feeling better, he said that his hose was dripping all night!...Good thing they have insurance. Check out his blog, struth!
Not much happenin' the last few days. Better get goin' to the museum.

Two days since my last post! BIn Laden..Bin busy..Bin shovellin'! We got dumped on..snow that is. It started Friday evening and continued throughout the night. Not only did we get 15-20 cms of snow ..that's about 7or8 inches Canadian...or about 10 inches American, but it drifted like mad! I soon realized on Saturday morning that my little shovel was not going to do it, so I looked around for the snow-blower and found that it was still in the back by the shed....under roughly 15 to 20 cms of snow (10" American). Not being much of a planner, I remember thinking, about October, that I must move it before the snow comes. Now I had to dig it out of the snow before I could fire it up! I did dig...a path and it out! It started fine and I was able to blast my way down the driveway and out and around the house...it was a north wind, so I had great faking pile o' snow at the front of the house, especially on the steps. It was about -20 deg c. or about 30 euros, at the time i was snowturfing (we in Manitoba have at least 30 words for moving snow) and it plummeted from there going down to -32 deg c last night...as we say around here, cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey. I don't know why we say that because there are no brass monkeys around here......we just say it.....we have a 'golden boy' and a little bronze boy with a little bronze boot but no brass primates. Faking Cold is all.
Today it is still around -22 c but sunny and no wind.
Yesterday I hosted the executive meeting of the Humanist Assoc. of MB. The meeting took up most of the afternoon. We are petitioning our Mayor Gen Murray to declare Feb 12, 2004 as Darwin Day....since that is Darwin's B-day. He should be amenable to that especially since we have other days, like gay pride day. I like that one since I think everyone should be happy! Anyhow, general dinner meeting next week and we have a speaker who will talk on funerals without God. Innerestin' very innerestin'.
Well better go and do todays x-word puzzle ...Cathy's bugging me to do it!

2004...2004...2004...
Wow it just seems like yesterday or the day before was 2003!
It's -10 deg c and snowing in Winnipeg today. That's 4 parsecs to a freckle on the end of your nose in Tishomingo..."Ya wanna sac o ass???"
Catherine is the new "keeper of the books" (Librarian) for the Humanist Assoc. of Man. (HAM). That seems right up her alley, doesn't it? And as such, we went over to pick up the books from the prior "keeper". Catherine will have them straightened out in no time! It will be her job to bring a selection of books to every meeting and to keep track of the people that borrow them.
Sounds as if Margot and Joel had a good time New Years Eve. Stayed up late and all.....Why I remember when I was a Youngun'.....Why I'd be up all night too. I remember once I went to the wrong party....missed the right house by a couple of houses....well we had a good time anyway until I realized that I didn't know anyone there, but we were having such a good time that they did not want us to go! This year we just went to dinner with the 'Friends' and had a real good time. We had a fondue with shrimp, steak, scallops, etc. and we used an oil fondue, a cheese fondue, a broth (lobster bisque) fondue and a chocolate fodue and about 9 different sauces. It was a long meal and we savoured a few bottles of vins-extrodinaire ( even polished of a bottle of Beaujolais Nouveau). We were already making plans for next years New Years Eve fondue by learning from this one...for 6 people you need 2 oil fondues (for meat), one broth fondue (for seafood), one large cheese fondue to serve as an appy, and a choclate fondue for a later desert....Oh yeah and more wine.
Who knows , maybe next year we would do like Nana does at the Manor...celebrate at 10 o'clock instead of midnight so we can get to bed early!

Here is aome "perspectives" about risks that I got from a friend:
There's a real disconnect with the publics view on what's risky and what's
not. And I have to say, it's the urban medias fault. Mad cow disease,
SARS and West Nile are some examples of the mass media's desire to
sensationalize something that is really a non-story. Or a least a story
that should be buried at the back of the paper. With mad cow disease, the
real story was the U.S. border shutting down, not that eating beef is
dangerous.
Your chances of getting variant Creutzfeldt Jakob disease (vCJD), which
scientists say you get mainly from eating the brain, spinal cord or eyes of
an affected cow, are about 1 in every 10 billion servings of beef -- in
Britian. So, your chances of getting sick from Canadian beef are so low,
it's not worth worrying about. As for SARS, well, over 700 people have
died of SARS, many of them very old. If you divide 700 by the number of
people in the world, your odds of dying from SARS are one in 8.5 million.
Outside of the SARS zone in Asia, the chance of dying of SARS is about 1 in
100 million.
Couldn't find the odds of you dying of West Nile, but here are some stats
found on the web for the lifetime odds of dying in one way or another.
This data was collected in the U.S.
Car accident - 1 in 244
Bus accident - 1 in 57,371
Falling of the bed, a chair or furniture - 1 in 5,700
Falling down the stairs - 1 in 2,503
Firearms discharge - 1 in 4,317
Bitten or hurt by a dog - 1 in 142,279
Drowning while in or falling into a bathtub - 1 in 11,116
Hornets, wasps or bees - 1 in 82,720
Lightning - 1 in 55,578
If you take lightning, the odds are that one person in a town a little bit
bigger then Brandon, Moose Jaw or Medicine Hat
would be killed every 76 years or so.
Now, lets look at vCJD. If every man, woman and child in Moose Jaw would
eat one serving of British beef, every day, 375 days a year, it would take
830 years before one case might show up. In that much time, probably 6 or 7
people from Moose Jaw would have been killed by lightning.
So, if you're still worried about dying from eating meat, from mosquito
bites or SAR, don't ever take a bath, pet a dog, rid in a car or bus, use
the stairs or go outside when it is raining. Those things are way more
dangerous then eating beef.

eat one serving of British beef, every day, 375 days a year, it would take
830 years before one case might show up.
