one more sleep
All ready for the west coast trip. Bags are packed, a limo is ordered for the morning. Tonight I will go online and get our boarding passes so we don't have to wait in line in the morning. Isn't it amazing that you can pick your flights , pay for your tickets, get your boarding passes, all on line. Too bad you can't do the security thing too! That is always a pain in the ass. Looking forward to the trip and seeing Gary and Carol and the family. I remember when Lyn was just soooo tall, 'bout knee high to a grasshopper, and now she has four...count 'em four kids of her own! Of course, her new husband Alan brought two great kids into the marriage to go along with Rachel and Adam, Lyn's two kids. I call them kids but they are almost adults....especially Rachel. Be nice to see Noni and Chelsea and David and Tena and their kids! Woohoo, lots to do. And we got to take in some of the sites around Victoria....like the air museum, etc. Then the cruise of course...looking forward to that . The cruise will be followed by a stay in Vancouver to visit our wonderful daughter and her husband Joel. We will be staying at the Sheraton Wall Hotel....see http://www.starwoodhotels.com/sheraton/index.html
should be nice.
We hope to see Lois and Brett while we are there too.
Better go and get some supper.
Later....Peace

TWO DAYS
Well, here it is Sunday and we leave on Tuesday. Got to find the tickets....where are the tickets! Suitcases, must pack....what to pack? I'll be OK...its Catherine that is nervous.
We bought a 10kgs bag of dog food and stocked up on doggie treats for when Suzie goes to summer camp (at Pat and Paul's place) and, sssshhh we aren't telling her that she is NOT going to summer camp. She is so excited. We'll have to pack her bed, leashes, toys, food, blanket, treats, harness, baggies and other stuff. Except for the playpen, its like taking a baby.
Well, just finished another NYT x-word puzzle and now its time for a little breakfast.....bacon and eggs...mmmmmm
later, PEACE

One day closer!
This AM I gave a tour at the Aviation Museum to a group of 20 or so sixth graders. The students in Manitoba take a unit on flight in grade six, so we get many grade six groups coming through. It was a 'French immersion' class so you know that they were intelligent and well-behaved!
Catherine and I are off to the gym for a workout later this afternoon. We have to get to the gym today because we will not have time between now and the time we leave to get some exercise in. We shall have to get some walking in at Victoria for sure. Got to get down to 190 before the cruise!!! I actually bought some new slacks that will expand a bit so I can partake of some extra food on the cruise......perhaps some chicken on my salad, that kind of thing! Must remember to take my 'speedo' swim trunks, so I can make an impression at the ship's pool. I am quite sure that it will be unforgettable.....the ship's pool, not me in a speedo, although?????
Better go have a nap before I get Catherine.
Later......PEACE
One day closer!

Daily Kos :: Political Analysis and other daily rants on the state of the nation.:
Here is a stand by Kraft Foods that we can all support. It does my heart good to know that there are still some companies out there that are willing to take a stand, however unpopular that stand may be!
"The following was an email to employees from Kraft Foods EVP Marc Firestone:
From: Marc Firestone, Executive Vice President, Corporate Counsel and Corporate Secretary, Kraft Foods Inc.
Subject: Kraft's Contribution to 2006 Gay Games
The true test of any commitment is how you respond when challenged. Kraft is experiencing this to a degree right now, as a result of our decision to be one of several contributors to the 2006 Gay Games in Chicago. The games will bring together thousands of athletes in a competition that will take place in our corporate hometown.
In recent days, the company has received many e-mails, the majority of them generated through the America Family Association, which objects to our sponsorship. We also have received calls and e-mails - - not as many, but equally passionate - - thanking us for supporting this event. A member of Chicago Mayor Richard Daley's team said, 'We applaud the businesses that are sponsors of the Gay Games, including Kraft Foods.'"

Lazy day
Catherine subbed today. I spent the day delivering groceries to me Mom and on the computer, first talking to brother Jack and then to brother Gary. I downloaded the new Yahoo messenger 3.4 (Beta) software and it seems be an improvement on the voice end and some better features. I guess it'll work.
Anyhow, good news about me Mom. She has an appointment with the oncologist on June 15th and my cousin will be taking her because I will be out of town on a cruise to Alaska.....(can't wait). Let me tell you that its a real load off my mind knowing that Mom has that appointment. the hardest part is waiting to hear from these people! You leave a message on some answering machine and they say that 'your call is important to us' and 'we'll call you back as soon as possible'.....bullshit.
We'll be busy getting ready for the trip over the next few days. I have to be at the museum on Friday, Saturday, and Monday, so better pack on Sunday, eh? Catherine is subbing tomorrow and between there somewhere we have to cut the grass and get the dog over to our friends house, as they are looking after her while we are gone.
Well its tough just thinking about all the stuff we got to do, so I'd better go have a nap.
Later, Peace.
Lazy day

Crusade?

Found on America blog
It's a photo of a US tank dubbed the "New Testament" - the name of the tank is written across its barrel. The even funnier part is that this photo MADE IT PAST military censors and the DOD Web page with the photo on it even brags about the name "New Testament" in the caption.
(caption)...."Haditha Dam, Al Anbar, Iraq - The 'New Testament' a tank with 4th Tank Co., 1st Tank battalion attached to 3/25 prepares to lead the way during a recent mission.Photo by: Cpl. Ken Melton " picture taken 5/05/2005

one week and one day to go
Well here it is Monday
One week and one day to go. We had Pat and Paul over for the evening last night and they are anxious to have Suzie come stay with them. I'm beginning to wonder if we'll get her back! We are busy making plans on which luggage to use and how much stuff to bring....let's see, will they have lamps aboard?.....because we can take one if they don't.
It was the season finale of 'Desperate Housewives' and 'Grey's Anatomy' last night. Both were great. boy that cliff-hanger at the end of DH is good....what will happen?
Better go. We are taking in an 'open house' at a 'lawn bowling' place and then we are picking up Nana for a little ride.
So later....PEACE

Watching Catherine cut the grass
Catherine, er, Ms Prairie Dog, spent the morning vacuuming and cleaning and now while I am on the computer, she is outside cutting the grass. She gets into these fits of energy, something that I try desperately to avoid. I did do the grass once this week already, and it really kills my back. They make the handles too low!...on purpose. Everything is too low for a tall dude. Counters, chairs, car roofs, doorways...all too low. I really hate going into those dumb shops where there are things hanging from the ceiling, they are always whacking me in the forehead. You could put a guy's eye out!
Well, better go have a nap, we got Paul and Pat coming over after dinner to play games and such. Salad for dinner....healthy hamster food.
Later, PEACE

Rainy Rainy Day
Yesterday, out at the lake the weather was beautiful. It was 26.5 deg. C and the sun was beating down. Poor doggie was all baffed out, trying to find a cool place to lie down.
The trailer weathered the winter just fine. We had a couple of popped water lines, where it had been patched before, and a quick fix and they were fine. Oh and Gary, the water heater works fine and no leaks. When Gary was down in the fall we tried to get all the water out of there but did not succeed in doing so, but the damn thing was fine after all. The Lake was smooth and there were several sailboats out on it...very picturesque. We grabbed some cinnamon buns and headed back in the evening because I had to work at the museum today. We will try and get out there next week, during the week when it is not so crowded.
Well, we leave a week from next Tuesday which is only a week from last Tuesday, making the day we leave two weeks from last Tuesday, or ten days from now......I think. anyhow, better get packing. After the cruise we are staying at a hotel in Vancouver called 'The Wall' and I think Margot got us a very good rate, anyhow, they said that to get the good rate we have to make our own bed, so I had better pack a hammer and some nails!
Later....PEACE

Hoovering Harper the squirrel
Having saved Canada from the evil Mr. Harper, Prairie Dog Man packs his wife and the dog into the car and heads off to the lake to open the trailer. It is a beautiful Friday, sunny and supposed to go to 25 deg C. We probably will not stay overnight, but just tote a lot of crap out there and probably go back next week, during the week. We have some neighbours out there that will be out polishing their plastic squirrels and hoovering the driveway, and such.....no match for me, I go out there to relax! It will be nice to see the lake again and get some of that great fish and chips, and those great cinnamon buns mmmmmmm. Oh yeah, relax.

153 to 152 the Liberals stay in power!
Well, it was close. Encouraged and emboldened by my rant on CBC Sunday Report, the Liberals thumped the hapless (and Belindaless) Harper and his Canada Reform Alliance Party (CRAP) in a non-confidence vote extrodinaire. The NDP ammendments t0 the budget have been incorporated and all is well with the world. You know that a minority government can really work but for power hungry Tories egged on by the business elite! Trickle down economics indeed! Take a valium and call me in the morning! woo hoo

Roadshow, Valerie Pringle, Fanny's pride, nudism
It was 9:30 AM Tuesday and the phone rang. It was the CBC. They told me that Catherine had won two tickets to the 'Antiques Roadshow'. Unbeknownst to me she had called in to CBC radio in the morning on her way to substitute at Sam Burland School. They asked people to call in to say what they wanted to take to the roadshow to get appraised. So, I rushed out the door to go and pick up the tickets and quickly realized that there was no car in the driveway. Boo. Anyhow we picked up the tickets and found ourselves in line today at 12:00 noon. There was only 2000 tickets given out and we had two! It took us 2 1/2 hours in line before getting inside, only to stand inline inside. We had brought Granny Fanny's (Fanny Wakeham) 1901 medal for writing an essay about Canada (complete with supporting documents signed by Lord Strathcona), a little bit of Canadiana. We finally got to sit down with an appraiser named Jeff who told us that the medal was one of about 1,000 issued to students in England at the turn of the Century. This was an effort by Canada to promote Canada in England. Lord Strathcona (Donald A. Smith) was involved in Canadian politics in the latter half of the 19th century, and had become Canada's high Commissioner to Great Britain. Well, ole Jeff said that the medal (he has only seen 3 or 4) was worth $150.00 and the provenance of the document ensured that. Well, it's a little bit of Canadiana that will remain in the family. It is nice to know about it and we also learned how to take care of it.
The Antiques Roadshow from Winnipeg will be shown on TV in the fall. Carol might remember Leslie Lesley, whom she went to school with, well she was at the show too and must have had something good to show because they had her put on make-up and all. We didn't get much of a chance to talk to her to find out, so it will be a surprise.
The day was so long that when Catherine and I were done standing in line and all we were pooped, and it was all we could do to slip over to the shopping centre and grab a bite before going home....no Reh-fit tonight!
We also went over to the post office and got a 'stop mail' order for while we are away. We also went over to the Men's Large and Lofty (Big and Tall) shop and got me a couple pair of pants for the cruise. So now I am set....let's go cruisin' !!!!! Oh and Catherine got me a pair of lounge like, PJ bottoms really, to wear in the cabin on the cruise.....she says that it would be preferable to me running around in the buff....you know in case we have to abandon ship. I figure that if we have to abandon ship, then me running around in the nude would almost ensure me a spot in a lifeboat! Dontcha think? Catherine thinks otherwise....
Later.....PEACE...Oh on my boarding documents for the cruise, where it said 'title' I put Reverend. Is that OK? hee hee

BS, Cats, Cheerios, boats and trailers
It's 4 o'clock in the morning and my BS is low....blood sugars, silly. So here I sit reading bloggies and eating Cheerios.
I spent the day painting the front wood portion of the house a nice clean white. Oil based paints are the way to go but the devil to clean up, etc. And the way I paint, I get it all over. Mom was here today...she stayed over night. We had a nice visit and on the way home we went to her favourite restaurant, AAltos in the CanadInn. I really don't like buffets, people pile food on their plates like its their last supper. Don't get me wrong, I do it too, its just that you are kind of 'expected' to.
Carol phoned today and she and Gary have made reservations for us on the White Pass Railway tour as part of our cruise. Looking forward to the cruise, it will be nice to get away.
Mom is getting antsy about what is going on with her lymphoma. Its hard when all you can do is wait. I called Dr. Silver's (Dermatologist) office to find out the status of the CAT scan/ oncologist appt. and was told that the letters were being typed and would be sent out and that we would have to wait until they call us. You would think that in this day and age, with computers, FAX machines and all that they could speed up the process a little.....but no they take their time and 'do it the old way'...tried and true...just SLOW.
It was a beautiful day today and it is supposed to be nice tomorrow, so I will be busy cutting the grass if my back recovers from the painting today. ....Gee I still have the fence to do. And we have to get out to the campground at Gimli and open up the trailer this weekend. Its supposed to be a nice weekend, with a high of 24 on Saturday...we'll see. Their weather predictions haven't been too reliable lately.
Just two weeks today and we are on our way! A few days in beautiful Victoria and then the cruise and then a few days visiting Margot and Joel in beautiful Vancouver and then back home.
Well the cheerios are kicking in, so I had better get back to bed!
Peace.

'On Bullshit' by Harry G. Frankfurt

http://slate.msn.com/id/2114268/
How does bullshit differ from such precursors as humbug, poppycock, tommyrot, hooey, twaddle, balderdash, claptrap, palaver, hogwash, buncombe (or "bunk"), hokum, drivel, flapdoodle, bullpucky, and all the other pejoratives* favored by H.L. Mencken and his many imitators? The scholar who answers the question, "What is bullshit?" bids boldly to define the spirit of the present age.

If you don't speak, no one will ever hear you.
If you don't approach, no one will ever be near you.
Does someone miss you when you're not at home
It's a question of give & take
If you don't cry, no one will ever feel pain for you
If you pass by, the feet of the world will walk away from you
...If you don't defend, no one will ever be there for you
If you pretend, no one will ever much care for you.

Just got home....I was at the Aviation Museum this AM. It took us all morning to load the Hispano-Bouchon onto a trailer destined for the so-called 'National' Museum in Ottawa. We had to man-handle it all the way into the trailer, tail first. Glad that is done.
Last night I had a board meeting for the Museum. I am now a 'sustaining' member of the board.....means I gets a vote. Boring, boring boring, how on earth do they get anything done? Crushingly dull, but I suppose comforting to some. I guess that to some no change means security. I have to rattle things up the next time.
Tomorrow we have the Humanist executive meeting.....busy week. Saturday, we have the Humanist general meeting. It will be the last meeting that I organize. I don't have time for it anymore, so someone else will have to do it.
I think Carol had a good Mothers day Dinner here Sunday. Carol got calls from Lyn, Noni, and David, all wishing her a good Mom's day. Catherine heard from her two sisters and Joel called and then later in the evening Margot called. Catherine was thrilled at all the attention. Mom got flowers from Gary and flowers from Jack and Catherine and I got her a new crib board, cards and some extra pegs because we knew that she needed them. We had roast beast and Jeannies cake too. Now time to diet if I want to reach that 190 goal that I set for myself.....now was that lbs or kgs??? hummmmm I just want to be able to get into that size nine dress....er suit...well you know what I mean!
Carol taught us some 'on board' cruise etiquette. Never sit down and take the napkin out of the wine glass and put it in your lap......let the waiter do it.....but be sure to wink at him when he does it, just to keep him on edge! Anyhow I always tuck my napkin into the top of my shirt so I don't get bean juice, etc. on my paisley tie!
According to some news reports there are still some Japanese submarines out there that do not know that the war has ended and they harass the cruise ships at or near the Hubbard Glacier. I hope we don't encounter any but if we do, I will be ready with my Japanese phrase book:
この船を沈めてはいけない。戦争はある。....Don't shoot, the war is over! Well, it could happen..........
Better go pack. Later. Peace.

I have an American friend and he is confused over certain passages in the Bible. Can you help?
"I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly state she should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?
Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?
When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for theLord (Lev 1 :9). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?
I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev 15:19-24). The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.
A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an Abomination (Lev 11: 1 0),it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree.
Lev 21 :20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. Ihave to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here? Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev 19:27. How should they die?
My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev 19: 19 by planting two different crops in the samefield, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? (Lev 24: 10-16)Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleepwith their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

(Lev. 20:14)

Hey....I think Gary is trying to out-humanism me!!! Why I oughta...... Come to think of it I have listened to the Dalai Lama a few times and doggone it , I think he is a Humanist too!! Either that or I am a Buddist...how about a Budanist?
Guess what! We ordered a Jeannies cake for Mother's day!mmmmm No I get the corner! Carol will be here, we pick her up at 2:00pm. I will turn on Yahoo messenger if anyone wants to Yahoo Mom or Carol. Maybe Gary can show his poor emaciated, 'please sir may I 'ave som moar', face. But NO CAKE FOR YOU!
Speaking of losing, I hope to get down to 190 lbs before the cruise. Then, I can wear that wonderful Hawaiian shirt that I wore when I was 20 ...Hey I wore it with my leisure suit; Wait! I could take that on the trip and wear it on 'formal' night.
I need another hobby. Maybe I'll design crop circles...but who would I sell them to? I'll have to ponder on that one!
Well better get some sleep if I'm going to get into the crop circle thing. Peace and love everybody! Omni Fixit Moritati....Rev Denny

This is nice....This is what it is to be a humanist
The Humanist Association of Manitoba (HAM) is an organization of individuals who do not believe in a god or gods and, in our view of the world and human life, seek to be guided by rational thought and knowledge. We champion humanism as a way of looking at all aspects of human life from a humanistic perspective, including ethics, philosophy, politics and social action. In our endeavors, we focus on reason, intelligence, gender equality, compassion, and a science-oriented approach to life. We have only one life and, in that life, we need to set a good example by participating in the world and society around us, aware that life is not a spectator sport.

Its the Scopes trial and Inherit the Wind all over again!! when will it ever end??
Debate opened on Thursday in Kansas over what children should be taught in schools about the origin of life -- was it natural evolution or did God create the world? The hearings, complete with opposing attorneys and a long list of witnesses, were arranged amid efforts by some Christian groups in Kansas and nationally to reverse the domination of evolutionary theory in the nation's schools.

I guess everyone wants to know how Mom made out at the Doctors? Well, she had this spot on her head about the size of a quarter. She has had this spot for about 2 months. I thought that it was just some psoriasis at first. It was first noticed by her hairdresser. I took her to the dermatologist on Tuesday and he took a biopsy. He is not sure at all as to what it is, but he is not ruling out anything and some two kinds of carcinoma were mentioned. Its a good thing that Mom doesn't know what carcinoma is so it went right over her head. He put a rush on the results and he asked if I could bring her back to see him next Thursday when he should have the results. So there you go....you will know when I know. Let's hope that it turns out to be not serious.
I am now a sustaining member of the WCAM museum and now I have to go to board meetings. There's one next Tuesday. It should be fun.
I just finished putting out that darn newsletter for the Humanists of Manitoba. Its a lot of fussing and trying to fit things in here and there....how many words was that??? Well, one more to do before we leave for the west coast.
Nice day today....about 20 and sunny. Grass needs cutting. Carol called last night and she is coming over for dinner Sunday to celebrate Mother's Day. I understand that she is having a good visit with Betty and Merle. We ordered a Jeannies cake.
Well better go since dindin is ready. By the sounds of it Gary is losing weight by not eating. Well, at least that will give his shoulder a rest!
Peace everybody and keep the shiny side up and the greasy side down!

Yes Gary, that damn camera does put on a few pounds! ....if you ever get in front of a TV camera you will find out! HA! But my point is still valid....We should wait until the Gomery commission is over and the results are in before we have another election, that nobody wants by the way! This is the way governments work, the NDP gets to push a great budget through. I see tonight that Harper and his happy band of REDNECKS are ready to end the government. Can you say REFOOOOORM!?! The vote will be close but I hope that the Conservative Reform Alliance Party (CRAP) will lose. That guy is nothing but a Bush Mini-me.
But enough ranting. ...HMMMMM 'things I really should have said on CBC!' bwahahahahahaha
I discover a new Aunt of mine recently. Auntie Bernice from Provo, Utah. She tracked me down through the internet. She is one of the offspring of my Grandfathers second mate, er wife? ...not sure but she was born in Chicago, met her husband while he was going to medical school and after he graduated they moved to Provo. Aint life grand? Aint the world small and getting smaller! Together they had 6 kids and they are spread out all over the place but there is one (Julia) in Simi Valley, California and one in Cedar City, Utah....and that is wild because I have been to both places on business trips. I was in Simi Vally, Ca for a week just whiling away time waiting for a supplier to make some parts! It would have been nice to meet with them.
Well better go. I am taking Mom to a dermatologist tomorrow...she has a small patch on her skin that concerns her.
We saw 'Ocean's Twelve' last night and 'Vera Drake' ...I liked 'Vera Drake', Imelda Staunton deserved the Oscar for that performance, she was nominated but she didn't get it. Yes, we will have to see 'Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy'.
Well Peace all and stay cool my babies, Rev Dennis from the church of the holy sepuclchure...cephulcure...spullchure...tomb!
