What if Dr. Seuss wrote techncal manuals?

From the Internet

If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
And the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
And the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
Then the socket packet pocket has an error to report.

If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash,
And the double-clicking icons put your window in the trash,
And the data is corrupted 'cause the index doesn't hash,
Then your situation's hopeless, and your system's gonna crash!

If the label on your cable on the gable on your house,
Says the network is connected to the button on your mouse,
But your packets want to tunnel to another protocol,
That's repeatedly rejected by the printer down the hall.
And your screen is all distorted by the side effects of gauss,
So your icons in the window are as wavy as a souse,
Then you may as well reboot and go out with a bang,
'Cause as sure as I'm a poet, the suckers gonna hang!

When the copy of your floppy's getting sloppy on the disk,
And the microcode instructions cause unnecessary RISC,
Then you have to flash your memory and you'll want to RAM your ROM, Quickly turn off your computer and be sure to tell your Mom.

What if Dr. Seuss wrote techncal manuals?

bootiful; BFS; beagles; balls

Hello again from Winnipeg....another beauuutiful day. The temp is 0 deg C. This week it is supposed to get to +7 deg C by Wednesday and +7 deg C Thursday and +9 deg C on Friday. I luvs this global warmin! At this rate the groundhog (Puxatawny Phil) will come out of his hole wearing sunglasses and suntan lotion! Actually, it could cause problems like they had in Vancouver...too fast a melt and frozen ground...the water has nowhere to go. A small spring flood is expected due to the extensive snowfalls we have had so far this winter but nothing like the flood of '97...that is unless we get another BFS (big friggin' snowfall!).

Suzie (our Beagle) must be tired as she has gone back to her little bed in the bedroom, to have a nap. Life is tough. Everyone needs an afternoon nap now and again. even meeee *Yawn*.....

Yes, Gary...a good thing to do is to write out the blog first in Word and then copy to the blog. Otherwise you can lose it like moi! Sometimes the damn blog just refuses to publish and all that work just goes into never never land. I wonder how the 'draft' function works. I should try that too.

Well, better go and pick up Nana.....Mommy Dearest. We are having her for supper....I mean we have invited her OVER for supper to have her here for supper not as PART of supper but as a guest....balls got to go.

Keep on blogging Y'all...I swear, you don't have to wait for a major event to happen to you before you can blog! Blog on dudes and Dudettes!

Peace

damn blogger; fighter, Fonger, go figure

Well, well. Damn blogger. I wrote a blog early in the week and it disappeared when I went to publish it! Then, I SWEAR....I did another blog and while it published and I saw it on the blogsite...it too disappeared.

Anyways, nothing much new here.....except that Catherine and I have decided that on the Alaska cruise we want to do the White Pass train and bus thing. That is the one thing that we would really like to do and that would be in Skagway. That is (probably) the one side trip that sells out the fastest, so I think that we will book it when we pay our final cruise bill in March. As far as Ketchikan and the other towns we stop at, we are for just traipsing around the towns. Apart from that we are packed and ready to go!

I read Lewis's blog and he said that he wanted the kids in Victoria to send some pics so he could take them to Winnipeg to show Aunt Merle when he visits on the 5th Feb. So, I took it upon myself to send him several digital pics from my collection....never heard if he got them but since I did not get the email back I assume he got them. Anyhow...your welcome!

I was out at the museum three times this week. We have a special show on about the Hispano-Buchon HE1112 (spanish version of the German Messerschmitt BF-109) . See the poop here. The Hispano Buchon is going back to the Ottawa museum where it was on loan from. We also have a display on about a father and sons trip around the world in a Piper Commanche twin. quite a trip for a small plane. See that poop here. Don Fonger (the Dad) took 1 1/2 years to plan the 1987 trip. He had to write to each and every airport to get customs clearance, etc, for a 'pit stop'. Anyhow it was quite a thrill for both of them. The son, James Fonger, went on to pioneer a minimally invasive heart surgery procedure in New York. See that poop here.

Wow, Noni blogged and now she rules....must be the 40+ maturity thing happening....more time on her hands! Keep blogging everyone!

Finally a good use for the bible! Wpg Free Press Jan 21, 2005:

"THE Bible is the hottest read at Headingley jail these days.
Unfortunately, it's because the inmates are using the Good Book's pages to roll cigarettes.
Staff and clergy at Headingley Correctional Centre are trying to get prisoners to stop the practice after dozens of Bibles were defaced and destroyed by inmates who use the thin pages to roll and smoke homemade, uh, cell-made cigarettes.
Prison staff have begun to confiscate all the Bibles distributed to prisoners and are keeping track of who has them and who's defacing them."

Apparently the inmates are mixing tea leaves with melted nicorette gum and using the pages to roll their stogies!...verrrry creative. I think it is OK, as long as they aren't defacing important works of literature, like comic books and such! nyuk nyuk

Not much new here, except that we got more snow...5 cms yesterday. The streets are quite eerie with walls of snow along each side. The city is having a tough time keeping up with the plowing. Its supposed to be quite nice for the next few days so they will have a chance to catch up.

Thanks, Gary for the pics from Cocopah. Thats a good idea putting up a fence in front of your trailer...that way your golf balls can't get past your trailer and into that big field on the other side! And that water tower...what a hazard! Too bad I couldn't be down there...because I am packing!...I'd show you where the bear left the five wood in the buckwheat! Why , I shoot in the low seventies...any hotter and I go home!...why I oughta!

Well, later is good.........and good night to y'all...keep blogging too!

Egad, gadzooks..........am I the only one blogging? am i the only one blogging (echo-echo)?
Just a few minutes to kill before we are off to the Reh-fit centre for our tri-weekly workout.....or is that triweeklicle....anywho, three times per week. The construction of the new facility is progressing slowly. It will be nice when it is all finished. Never did get Paul to join. Oh well, quintuple bypass and I guess now he is invincible. I guess he thinks that golfing in the summer will be all the exercise he will need. Guess again....just think of all the stress, especially when one plays at his level. blook in the bush, blook in the water, blook in the sand trap.....its called blook stress and causes some guys to throw their clubs! blook

Haven't heard from Gary since Friday. I guess he is out golfing and sun-tanning or something. I saw his pics on the blog. If you look closely on the water tower you can see me looking down at Gary and his camera because there is a camera in the tower that you can use to see the panoramic view of the whole damn Cocopahpah Rv Camp and laundrette. Check out the fence required to deflect balls away from the motorhome....must be pretty bad golfers if they can't see that huge thing!

Well, better go and work out....peace......keep on blogging nyuk nyuk

snow, rain, inn, cruise

Isn't it frustrating when you do a blog entry and it doesn't publish. Swine blogs.
I heard reports that people on the West Coast of Canada are starting to build arks. Apparently the rain is coming down in biblical proportions. You know that if, as that great pundit said, you could shovel rain then it would not flood your house! The weather here is mild but it is snowing out the temp is -4 C (22F) and we got around 5 cms (2") snow and I had better get out there with the snowblower before Catherine gets back with the car.
Well, we have our reservations for air travel for May 31st to Victoria....only trouble is, where do we kip out??? Oh, is the Ousey Victoria Inn in Esquimault still open for business?? If that is possible, can we have reservations for two s'il vous plait?? If there is no room in the stable then we would be happy with the conference room on the hill!
Please advise, merci and we will start packing immediatement...toute suite as it were....oh of course it is not for a few months but it is good to be ready!
Better go and blow some snow....better have a sandwich first...my ass is snapping at grass!
Later.......Peace! Keep on blogging

flying goats do roam in villages, much ado about nothing

Only 142 more sleeps until the great Alaskan cruise. We have booked our flight.....it is as follows:

Date:_____Flight depart:__Flight arr_____Stops:______
Tue 31 May05 (659) Wpg 11:00am 12:05pm Calgary
...*Connect 821 Calgary 1:30pm 2:00pm Victoria

Thu 16Jun05 (208) Van 12:05pm 4:40pm Winnipeg
============================
We cash in on the current seat sale that lasts until May 31 ($98.00 ea to Victoria). Until the 31st of May you can get tickets to Winnipeg from Vancouver for only $49.00 (plus taxes, etc.) each one-way!!!! HINT HINT. The return trip cost us a little more but not much because Westjet has the 'open jaw' type of round trip ticket...it means you can complete a 'round trip' ticket but not have to leave from the same city you travelled to. We booked on line and it is easy to do.

We went to see the play "Much Ado About Nothing" and it was pretty good. I much prefer the movie though, you can't beat Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson, Keanu Reeves and Michael Keaton. If you get a chance, rent the movie...its a hoot. Afterwards we went over to Pat and Paul's for dinner and I picked up a bolttle of "Goats Do Roam"...In Villages. Actually not a bad wine from South America. It was a hoot to see our friend's faces when they read the label!

Well better go and finish packing for the cruise....what to wear, what to wear.. rainy or sunny...one pair underwear or two...better make it two, the cruise is a week. Egads I'm confused.

Who, booboo, much ado, see yoo!

Gary is in Cocopah, AZ and apparently having a good time despite a wet start. Even though I perused the pics off the Cocopah web site, I wish he would send/post some of his own pics.

Looks like my Blog count on my Blog site has stopped at 401, even though I have posted more than that. All my posts have been archived, including the original one in Sept. '03. when Gary and I thought that for his 6 month odyssey it might be good to do the blog thing. It has worked so well as a communication device that now everyone is blogging....well, maybe just Gary and I but lots of people have blogged, at least once, OK sometimes, maybe. Did you know that ABC news has declared the Blogger as Person of the Year?! ;-) The blogger played a big role in the election in the USA.

We are off to see a play at the Manitoba Theatre Centre tomorrow called "Much Ado About Nothing"...by Bill somebody. Shakelance...? anyhow, it should be good. We will do dinner afterwards....any suggestions? I think we have done all the good restaurants in town......except maybe the Feng shue wet noodle Emporium and Canadian cuisine house.

well....until later ciao, bambinas......Veni, vidi, veni (I came, I saw, I came....A love Story) keep ona da blooging...

All along the water tower, pool, cool, and toodle-oo

I went to the cocopah site and if you scroll throught the pictures you get to the 'panoramic view' from the water tower. I don't know how often they update the view but you get to see the whole layout. quite interesting. Looks like a nice place to golf and lounge around the pool. And a nice gym too.

Anyhow...quite cool here....not pool weather. In fact its blowing something fierce out there. Blizzard conditions on the highways and byways. ...Not bad in the city though, just windy. About zero degrees F....sounds better than the equivalent -20 deg C.

I spent the morning at the Aviation Museum. Not many customers, just some out-of-towners in between flights, and a couple of pilots. there was a group there from Air Canada that are putting on a retirement party tonight for about 20 Air Canada employees.....Air Canada was not going to do anything for them so the employees got together and did it for themselves. A swell bunch of guys.

Better go and get Catherine. She was asked to sub again today for the woman that she subbed for yesterday. So toodle-oo and pip pip eh wot? And keep blogging...................

Holy jesus mother mary of god....you must run and tell the others.....Jack blogged! Remember you heard it here first...see it at Jack's blog.

hey, Gary...you just missed the bad weather on Vancouver Island. I saw some shots of mountains of snow and downed power lines from Goldstream Park. I think they said that power went out in that area on Friday and as of last Monday it hadn't been restored. Here it is just cold, no wind when it gets this cold....... -25 to -30 C at night but up to a balmy -18 C in the day time! lots of sun so that is alright.

better go....got to make mre plans for the cruise. bubye

Just sitting here reading my e-mail. Catherine is on her computer writng what looks like a book review....I would ask but she is in deep concentration. Mom is in the kitchen looking at a road atlas. She asked me where Gary is on the map, then she asked me where Jack is on the map, then we looked for where Mike is in Northern BC. Fun with a map.

Last night we got back home around 9PM and Mom talked about Alvina some more and she talked of Alvina's sister Rose and how Rose was so full of life (seems a contrast to Alvina, who was always fearful). I talked to Audrey last night and she said that Alvina was told that she had terminal cancer about a week before she died. The doctor said that she had about 3 m0nths to live and a week later she was gone.

I have Gary's site number and if I can hook up with the camera on Cocopah's water tower then we can probably see the RV. Neat, eh? Its prpbably the one with all the dents from the golf balls hitting it, that is if Gary has been on the course!...bwahahaha.

Looking forward to the cruise...just a short 5 months away. We already have plans set for the first three days on board....the casino, the shows, work-outs, rub-downs, drinky-poos, eating and sleeping not necessarily in that order.

Better go....Keep blogging

Just a quick post today. We are going out to a dinner meeting shortly.
Mom is here now and talking about Alvina. I'm sure it makes her think about the fact that she is 86 this year and she won't be around forever. Anyhow, Gary phoned Mom from Arizona and the two of them reminisced about times with Alvina. Gary and Mom lived with Alvina (and Gordon) for a time during World War II. Gary asked fo Audrey's address, here is the corrected version:

Audrey Hillman
16 Reay Crescent
Winnipeg, MB R2K 3R3

Better go......be sure to blog....now and often!

Alvina, Lew, Helen, intelligent design, HAMBones

First of all, a lifelong friend of Mother's has passed away. Alvina Hillman died on Tuesday Jan. 4th. There will be no funeral service so we can't take Mother but she will be coming to our place for a couple of days. I talked to her on the phone and she feels upset by it all. All we can do is listen to her. It's too bad there is no funeral because it would be a chance for her to get her feelings out....funerals are for those left behind.

Blogs, blogs, blogs...looks like Lew Heuchert (Carolyn's brother) is blogging now. See it here . He's a bridge playing, marketing, hunter, work-a-holic from Saskatoon who loves to party! Apart from Gary, no one else has blogged......I guess nephew Mike hasn't had a coffee break since Sept. 2nd/04!! Anyhow I hope all is well. Margot is busy orking and taking care of Joel who had pneumonia last week (he's a lot better now). I am sure that Lyn & Noni & David & brother Jack are are working away. Oh, Helen Kirkwood did blog...see it here. Our thoughts are still with her and her brother.
We are both fine here and are looking forward to a good year. Catherine is teaching today (the first time this year). I was out to the Air Museum three days this week. Catherine and I are giving a talk Saturday at the Humanist Assoc. of Manitoba on creationist's attempt to legitimize the biblical creation theory by calling it "intelligent design". Their main claim is that there are different species, yes but the species do not mix...to prove this they say (bold as brass) that there are no examples of animals that connect the species... the interspecies hybrids, if you will. But lo and behold there are at least 21 examples that scientists have discovered. Gosh, it was just in the news that scientists in Europe have cracked the chicken genome and by doing so have discovered that 310 million years ago chickens and humans had a common ancestor. See this site. Anyhow....Darwin rules! I will be lifting a toast to Darwin and the proven, scientific theory of evolution on Feb 12th., his birthday. Join me.

I (with Catherine's help) will be putting out the Humanist of Man. newsletter. Our acronym is HAM, so Catherine was thinking of renaming it "Ham-Bones" Its now called "News and Things"....egads!...anything is better.
Well better go, as soon as Catherine gets home we will be taking off to the gym.
Later....keep blogging.

I just received the "Wine Spectator" on line. It lists various wines, the good/bad, the expensive/cheap, etc. The pick of the month was a wine from S. Africa called "Goats do Roam" in Villages. "At $13.00 US it is a solid, modern-style wine here, with dark, racy blackberry and boysenberry fruit, ample toast and cocoa notes, and a long, plush, fruit-filled finish. Solid acidity keeps it all honest too. Delicious. Shiraz and Pinotage. Drink now through 2006. 12,000 cases made." Its a hoot. I'll have to get a bottle for when we get invited to our friend's place for dinner, both are kind of 'wine snobs'. For me 3:oo PM is a "fine year"! And I love any wines from "Chateau Fond du Lac" (Castle at the bottom of the lake) bwahahahaha.
I hate to think about the spring because (1) the ground was soaked from last summer and can't hold much more water and, (2) we have 5 times the amount of snow on the ground now as usual (we have 49 cms now as compared to 10 cms in a normal year). This could mean flooding if we get an 'instant' spring, espceially if we get more snow.
Looks like a wolf near Saskatoon picked off a person standing in line at a boxing week sale .....OK it was actually a few miles away at Key Lake mine, and the guy was jogging. It is unusual for a wolf to attack a humans like that so they figure it must have been rabid. The guy had to go for stitches and 50 (!) rabies injections. ouch.
I see on CNN ( the Truth in News) that a 38 year old guy in New Jersey was arrested for pointing a laser at planes. Apparently, hea has done it at least a dozen times. Thats enough to get the FBI excited about possible terrorists activity...but no, just a bozo in New Jersey.
150,000 and growing, thats the death toll in the far east tsunami. To put it in the simplest terms for digestion by Americans....thats more than all who died in 9/11. All kinds of stories now about how the American army is 'saving the day' during this crisis and no stories about what other countries are doing. THE MARINES HAVE LANDED! They would have landed sooner but Dubya was on vacation. Its no wonder that Americans think that they are the 'only ones in the world' .... they never hear of the others.
Love those religious groups...they have to justify God's actions because after all it had to happen at his hand...he caused it to happen for a reason, he does everything for a reason...he is not mean spirited but rational, just teaching mankind a 'hard lesson'. Bull crap. IT WAS A BIG WAVE WHICH RESULTED FROM AN EARTHQUAKE! I cn't wait until some of them start talking about this being the first stage of the apocolypse. Next the locusts, then the boils...
Gary is in Arizona. Looks kinda cool there. see his blog here. He finally got his biggest wish....spending New Years Eve in a Wal-Mart parking lot! Too bad it closed at 6:00 PM!
Gary is in Bugtussle , Arizona and he can still Blog.....let's see others do the same so he can know that everything is OK with all of us!
Keep blogging............PEACE

We got some snow on Thursday and Friday. About 25 cms (1 foot) or so, and today we are getting some more...about 10 cms. I fired up the ole snowblower on Thursday and Friday and shall have to get it going again later today! I luvs blowing snow.....yup, yup. At least its not rain (a bit of wetneck wisdom here).....ya can't blow rain! But you can in fact, shovel it. And you can shovel snow, but what is snow but chrystallized rain and rain is but melted snow......wow

We went over to the Bertrand's place to bring in the New Year. Because the streets were not yet ploughed, we picked up Paul and Pat on the way because we thought that if they got stuck....well, Paul just had his bypass in October. Anyhow, they got into the car dressed in their fur coats ...one beaver (sheared) and one mink...I think. Anyhow they looked like two little buffaloes sitting in the back seat. They have a way of, initially being very quiet like an old English Royal couple ....say the Duke and Duchess of Corwall.....I felt like a chauffeur. Catherine and I were talking and laughing but the Duke and Duchess just sat there quietly while I wondered how it would look if I got stuck and the Duke and the Duchess dressed their furry finest had to get out and push the car.
We got home around 1 AM.....we all started yawning just after midnight. I spoke to Nana today and she also went to a New Years bash of sorts at the Manor. She tells me that they actually have two rounds of Auld Lang Syne...one at 8:30 for the 'wanderers' on the eighth floor, and one at 10:00 for the rest. this is so that they can get to bed early. Mom went with her friend Amy and after 10:00 one of the men asked Mom and Amy up to his room to "Watch the ball drop"....Well, Mom said that she didn't even want to figure out what he was up to but Amy went with him. Mom asked Amy how it went the next day and she said that the old feller only wanted company...just company. I guess his balls dropped a while ago.

We talked to Margot Saturday and she said that Joel was sick. She had to take him to the Hospital on the third day of his high fever to find out that he had pneumonia. To complicate things the staff at the hospital were afraid that he had meningitus so they gave him a spinal tap and he is still hurting from that. That all happened before New years eve...over Thursday night. Margot was with him alone at the hospital over a 12 hour period. She did not call Joel's parents until she knew what it was for sure. I have to admire Margot.....she is strong like her Mom...she just took charge and saw it through. Joel's fever broke before he left hospital and now he is on the mend. All these trials and tribulations that happen to people.....I think that it is not what happens to you, you can grouse about that all you want, but it is the way you handle these things when they happen that make you stronger. Rock on. Life is what happens to you while you are making plans.
Well, I suppose Gary and Carol are in Washington State. Did they get the snow from the system that caused snow along the coast in California? Have they moved on to warmer climes in the South? We shall have to wait to find out.......curses Batman, blog damn you!
Peace.........
