In a conversation with PM Martin, Bush said that he wants Canada to negotiate a settlement on the softwood lumber issue. Here is the thing....It has already been settled in the NAFTA trade courts. The USA has been putting unfair tariffs on Canadian lumber for years and THREE times now it has been settled in Canada's favour. The US is wrong to be imposing tariffs which over the years has amounted to over 5 billion dollars CND. What is there not to understand, Mr Bush?...You have lost it in the courts! Americans want our cheaper softwood lumber......and they would save approx $1,000.00 per house. Mr Bush, let our countries use NAFTA as it was intended. If you have a trade dispute, settle it in the courts and if you lose, don't carry on like a bully.
