This is one of two giant bronze buffalo that decorate the main staircase at the Legislature. It weighs two tonnes (or 5000 lbs) and in order to place them inside the building they had to cut ice from the river and slide each one through the foyer on top of that ice in order not to damage the marble floor. Apart from the marble the building is completely made of Tyndall stone (mined just north-east of Winnipeg). Canada's Parliament building are made from Tyndall stone too.
