Me fail English???? That's unpossible.
This is a letter posted to the Humanist 'list-serve' by a fellow Humanist named Ernie Schreiber:
There was an article in Wednesday's (July 13th) Ottawa Citizen on the front
page with the header: "Pope decries Potter books 'subtle seductions" and
the sub-header: "Then-cardinal feared tales would turn children from
faith." In the article Ratzinger is quoted as condemning "...the Harry
Potter books as 'subtle seductions' capable of profoundly corrupting young
Christians and turning them from their faith."
What I find extremely ironic here is the following comment by Ratzinger,
and I quote: "...these are subtle, barely perceptible seductions, and
precisely because of that they have a profound effect and can corrupt the
Christian faith in souls even before it (faith) is able to properly
grow." This is what Ratzinger wrote in a letter, dated March 7, 2003, to
Gabriele Kuby, a German bestselling religious author, who had sent him a
copy of the first book of the series for comment.
Why is it ironic? Ratzinger practically admits that the church instills
church doctrine and Biblical fairy tales in the minds of young children as
"the absolute truth" before they have the capacity to reasons or think
critically, and he is worried that the Harry Potter stories (which are also
fairy tales but perhaps easier to understand and to like than stories in
the Bible) will interfere with the brainwashing process the church is
engaged in.
