Jack, jetsgone, Million Dollar Baby, GF gud, peace
Well, well....Jack blogged. Thats twice in a month! Most shocking. It appears he is taking several students to Balitmore to a ceramics conference. I hope they are not flying Jetsgo because Jetsgo is Jetsgone! Then again Jetsgo is a Canadian discount airline. I hope Westjet stays in business, because we are flying with them at the end of May.
We went to see "Million Dollar Baby" last Friday. Great movie. Highly recommended. All the academy awards were justified. Clint, Morgan, Hilary were all great....especially Hilary Swank. She gained 20 pound of muscle by working out for a few months before the movie began and gave a real credible performance of a boxer.....great. Twist at the end...bring kleenex!
We went out for a Humanist dinner meeting last night and the speaker was Mark Golden, a classics professor at the U of W. He gave a talk about the beginnings of humanism in Greece. He traced Greek society from the oral traditions, where stories were passed on from generation to generation and never questioned, to a literate society where the written word brought conjecture and differing opinions. Relate that to modern society where it is so easy for people to just believe unquestioningly what they are told about God and the bible and the more literate who question ideas, especially those that are said to be carved in stone, and believe in a more rational, scientific approach to what they are being told. He also discussed Greek Gods and mythology and Catherine is now wanting to drag out her old university texts on mythology and re-read them.
After dinner we went over to Al and Janine's place and played Trivial Pursuit ...the DVD edition. Its not very good, too many repeats. The old board game is much better. We didn't stay late, as Catherine is coming down with a cold. I hope it is better by Wednesday as that is when we are leaving for a couple of days down to the warmer climes of the sunny south!...Grand Forks! Mom has offered to stay overnight with the pooch ( I am not allowed to take the dog with me!) ...Speaking of Mom, she is here for the weekend.
Anyhow, that is all the news that is fit to print, keep on keeping on. And keep on blogging....the world loves a blogger!
Peace. And if you got time, there is a peace march against the war in Iraq on this Saturday. We meet infront of the legislature at 11:30 am. Be there or be square! Meet under the banner! Regards from Rev. Dennis from the Our lady of the immaculate, or real clean anyway, conception. May the wind always be up your skirts and long may your chimney smoke, Dudes. Peace out.
