I don't want to achieve immortality through my work... I want to achieve it through not dying.

Hello there. Yesterday was Mother's day. Happy Mothers day to all you Mothers out there! It was a beautiful day in Winnipeg 25 deg c and sunny. We picked up Mother at about 3:00 PM and brought her back here for dinner. Ribs (not those big dinosaur beef ribs but pork ribs....mmmmm). We got Mother a Jeannie's cake...I like...I mean she likes vanilla...mmmmmm. Mother got several cards and flowers from Jack (bootiful). She also received a card from Margot with a 'butterfly pin' in it...nice...mmmmmm. Mother also got to see Gary and Carol and Noni and David and Lyn on the Yahoo messenger (with video). We connected right after the 3 hour survivor special....Amber won. hoo hoo. Mother watched it with us and she just called to ask when it is on again....she is hooked, haha.
We got back from our meeting with the MB Human Rights Commission around noonish. I think that the meeting went well. It is the initial step on a long road. It will be interesting to see how it developes. There are some court rulings that have to be taken into account but generally we are on the right track....now the ball is in their court and we just have to wait. It feels good. For too long the emphasis has been on freedom of religion and we want the emphasis to be on freedom from religion. Its funny how the system works, here is an example: A catholic school can demand a "Statment of Faith" from a prospective teacher but they are not allowed..by law.. to ask their height, weight, disabilities, smoker?....a statement of Faith for goodness sake..if that isn't discriminatory I don't know what is???!!! But the courts have ruled that since it is a 'job requirement' then a statement of faith can be asked for!. Phooey!...egads!...gadzooks man! Height used to be a 'job requirement' for the police force but since that would preclude any Chinese or other typically short peopled races then they ruled that a persons height cannot preclude that person from becoming a policepersonguygalorwhatever. Anyhow school is not the place for indoctrinating children in religion. Kids are very impressionable...thats why the Gideons still throw bibles at them in grade 5...get them while they are young! Did you now that in the last census 20 to 31 percent of Canadians declared that they had no religion (highest being in BC and lowest in Newfoundland)...thats up from about 5% in 1946. Did you also know that 75% of canadians stated that they had a relgion but only 20% were actually regular church goers. Thats roughly equal in comparison to non-believers (and it is not easy to say that you don't believe!) And the rest of the 75% are just assuming that they have to be something because for example their parents were catholic then they must be catholics. Gary, do you remember in the forces when everyone had to be either catholic or protestant? No non-believers in the forces! When you had to go to the hospital they always used to ask what religion you were and it was so hard to say that you had none because that meant explaining. I once said to a hospital admissions clerk that I was a Druid...she marked it down. Thank goodness they don't do it anymore but that is because someone stood up and said "Hey, you can't do that!"

Anyhow, life goes on. I really like the new Blogger site...neat! new templates too! It seems that everyne that I tell about 'Gmail' is impressed. The only thing is that on my MTS mail I have a spam blowerawayer....

Well better go...keep blogging!!!!
